Have You Tried The T?

So now not only do I have to wait for this slow new T line...I have to do a lot of unwanted hiking every day! I'm annoyed that MUNI felt they had to ruin the N-Judah line to make way for the T. It doesn't make sense. Why don't all the trains go to the Caltrain station? Adding one new line while shortening others causes a NET LOSS IN SERVICE! This new line has screwed up my commute and offers nothing to me to balance everything out. It seems like it is MUNI's goal to disappoint riders.

Under the Hood With Knight Rider 2.0: Trans Am vs. Ford Mustang ...

In fact, the car's AI was so advanced that KITT formed a kind of personality, which is what has endeared the "car" to millions of auto geeks in a way the Batmobile never could be. But when the show was shelved in 1986, so was KITT. Last week, NBC unveiled an all-new, controversial KITT, which is set to star in the made-for-TV Knight Rider movie in February. Based on the still-to-be-released Ford Mustang Shelby GT500KR (click here for engine-revving video), this virtual Stang comes tricked out with a supercomputer that can hack almost any system; a very capable weapons system; and a body—thanks to nanotechnology—that's able to shape-shift and change color at will. Like its predecessor, the 21st century KITT gets AI from digital effects wizards that makes it an ideal crime-fighting partner: logical, precise and infinitely smart.

Tacoma jury finds Waters guilty on two counts of arson

TACOMA, Wash. -- A federal jury has found a woman guilty of two counts of arson for being the lookout in the 2001 burning of the University of Washington's Center for Urban Horticulture by members of the radical Earth Liberation Front.

U.S. District Judge Franklin Burgess declared the jury deadlocked on three other counts Thursday against Briana Waters, including conspiracy, possessing an unregistered destructive device and, the most significant count, using a destructive device during a crime of violence. The final charge would have carried a mandatory minimum of 30 years in prison.

First Assistant U.S. Attorney Mark Bartlett said his office would decide within a week whether to retry her on the deadlocked counts.

"She was an integral part of one of the most significant arsons ever to occur in this district," Bartlett said in court Thursday.

MSM Hound Won't Hunt!

Meanwhile, Obama's 'I'm not an operating officer' admission seems near-disastrous. a) Obama makes the presidency sound like a grand, slo-mo transformation of vision into legislation. But there are crisis requiring quick, coordinated action, and the type of leader who can act effectively in a crisis is likely to be a good "operating officer" rather than a visionary; b). Once you pass a law you have to implement it, which requires getting results out of the civil service departments. This would seem to be especially true of national health care. The president who ignores the bureaucracy and focuses on 'vision' is apt to be defeated by that bureaucracy. c) Immersing yourself up to the elbows in the various departments is one way to find out the information that bureaucrats are unlikely to pass up the chain of command.

McCain's Cheap Dates?

I don't want my 17-year-old son to have to pick tomatoes or make beds in Las Vegas."

Has Rove accidentally ripped the mask off the vicious social inegalitarianism of Bush's immigration plan, as Mark Krikorian argues, or does a more benign interpretation of his comments save him? It's not like he hasn't said this sort of thing before, apparently. Indeed, his June, 2006 version makes the probable context of last week's remark quite clear--and Rove's not simply "saying that every parent wants their child to have a high-skilled, high-wage job," as the White House's damage control suggests. Here's the 2006 pitch:

"Now frankly," Rove said during a riff on the temporary worker part of President Bush's immigration reform plan, "I don't want my kid digging ditches. I don't want my kid slinging tar.

DTL mulls Hindi feed; launches local show with fashion designer Manish ...

DTL is also having events like a party during the Fashion Week in Delhi.

On the new show, Arora visits various destinations and lends his distinctive touch to them. In one episode, he travels to Rajasthan to photograph faces to use in his upcoming collection. He looks at Jodhpur's blue washed houses and explores the designs of the auto rickshaws.

In another show, he travels to Goa and catches up with an Italian Chillum designer and visits a tattoo artist whose work has been inspired by Indian motifs.

The channel adds that Arora is ascending the international fashion ladder with his humour and designs. At the same time though his imagination is not restricted to the term fashion, as the common man knows it. It transcends throu8gh a kaleidoscope of design, related interests.

Economy clouds convention hall plan's rollout today

National economic difficulties and public skepticism about the huge price tag could pose tough political challenges for the plan being rolled out today for a new downtown convention center.

The plan, requested by Mayor Karl Dean, is expected to offer a road map for building a new convention hall south of Sommet Center. Dean supports the idea, saying the city needs to catch up in the race for major conventions and tourist activity; critics note that privately run Gaylord Opryland Resort & Convention Center is expanding, too.

The ugly truth in Afghanistan

Military operations should aim at speedy victory and not prolonged campaigns.

In Afghanistan, if the west hasn't won by now, it's facing prolonged, ignominious, and inevitable defeat.

Oh, wait. The Yanks are coming! Posted 01/03/08 at 1:43 AM EST | Alert an Editor | Link to Comment .

Californians, Oregonians visit Southern Oregon

Californians and fellow Oregonians are still the most prevalent tourists in seven Southern Oregon counties. Foreign visitors have more than doubled in the past 15 years. And tent camping is on the decline.

Such were the findings of a survey, the most complete profile on local tourism to date, presented to the Southern Oregon Visitors Association on Monday at its 12th annual Marketing Symposium.
