Local Gas Station Charging Over $4 Per Gallon Near OIA
ORLANDO, Fla. -- There was a break for the holidays, but gas prices are ready to rise again. One local gas station, though, is already charging customers much more than others. RAW INTERVIEW: Manager Defends $4.49 Per Gallon Customers at the independent gas station near the Orlando International Airport are paying $4.49 a gallon. Some of the customers don't know the price they're paying until it's too late. There are no large signs showing the prices at the station. Most customers are tourists returning rental cars before catching flights at Orlando International Airport. Not all believe it's an honorable way to conduct business. "It's not fair. It's definitely price gouging during the holiday season," said tourist Les Lazarus. Even at $4.49 a gallon for regular, most of the pumps were busy at Suncoast Energys on Friday morning.

Dollar Thrifty stock plunges
The stock of Tulsa-based Dollar Thrifty Automotive Group plunged Monday, after the company sharply lowered its earnings estimate late Friday. The stock of the rental-car firm had its biggest drop in more than 10 years, falling $9.62 a share to $16.40 in New York Stock Exchange Trading. Dollar Thrifty officials estimated Friday that 2007 profit could be 90 cents to 95 cents a share, down from their November forecast of $1.75 to $1.85. Demand over the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays was below expectations, CEO Gary L. Paxton said in a press release Friday. The company will report earnings on Feb. 28. .

No rain check from Hotwire
I called Hotwire and asked if they would allow me to take a rain check for another weekend. I was told, “no." So my friend and I drove down there in the storm. When we checked in, the power was out and the computer system was down. The “oceanfront" room we reserved was not available because of the rain leaking into the rooms and saturating the carpets. We were given a parking-lot view on the third floor. We went up to our floor and as we got off the elevator, it was about 80 degrees with a very bad odor, probably because of the power outage earlier that evening. .

FORT WORTH, Texas — True to its name, our first drive of the new Dodge Challenger prototype went down under extremely challenging conditions. Days of rain had left Dodge's rental track soaked and slippery, and the weather didn't look promising. It was hardly the perfect day to test a brawny new entry into the musclecar world—a model with the look and the sound of power in plentiful quantities. Even the ear buds we were wearing under our helmet to maintain radio contact with the pits couldn't muffle the baritone exhaust note from the big, 6.1-liter Hemi whenever we put our boot on the pedal. You should understand that we were toeing the accelerator extremely delicately, picking our way around a slippery, 3.1-mile track at a rain-sodden private track here. On the few occasions we could let the new coupe extend itself, the 425-hp Hemi gave voice in a way that brought a smile to everyone in range.
