Stadium Plans Unveiled

PUBLIC COSTS ARE EQUAL!!! 2) Parking/traffic: first of all don't pretend it isn't a pain in the *! at Rosenblatt right now. Just this past year I had to park 25 min from the stadium. look at the OWH article on stalls downtown w/in 12 min & stalls at Blatt & realize that a new stadium is the logical choice. could go on & on...
Posted by: Lizz Location: Omaha on Feb 27, 2008 at 09:46 PM If they can tear down Yankee stadium, we can tear down Rosenblatt! Change is good people! Embrace it! The College World Series brings significant business, money, and positive national attention to Omaha. If we lose it because we are not willing to embrace change, the city's finances will be much worse in the long run. As for the woman who said she "heard traffic is bad downtown" maybe she should try traveling down there! Do you really get an opinion on this project if you do not attend any games at Rosenblatt or appreciate our last major success as a city, the Qwest Center? I think there are plenty of Omahans that are ready and willing for a new stadium.

How to Hack Into a Boeing 787

In other words, it's possible this plane could be hacked.

- Click here to read the FAA's special condition regarding computer security on the 787-8.

"Special conditions" are issued by the FAA when it finds problems with technologies so new that they're not yet covered by existing regulations.

In such cases, manufacturers must meet the new criteria before aircraft can be certified as safe to carry passengers. Ten special conditions have been issued for the 787-8.

Boeing denies that a computer-security problem exists, and says further that if it does, it's already been corrected.

"There is a limited amount of information between networks [on the 787]," said company spokeswoman Lori Gunter. "The least amount is between passenger and flight control."

She added that Boeing is not working on a solution to the security problem — because the company has already resolved it, having known the FAA was drafting the special condition months in advance.

A Woman Who "Loved Life To The Fullest"

What is Omaha coming to? I guess there's nothing left to do except pray and hope for the best. God bless Brittany's family and the family of the young man who shot her has well.
Posted by: Lisa T. Location: CB on Jan 22, 2008 at 08:43 AM #1 problem is the way our children are NOT being raised. Children are not being taught to respect each other. They are not being taught right from wrong. To all of the parents... It Is your job to teach your children to be productive memebers of society. I see it everyday (regarless of zip code)parents put it off to the teachers and anyone else they can blame for thier childs inability to function in society. Go back 25 years... we were punished by our parents when we did not behave. We were punished and our priveleges were taken away!!!!! If our father had a hunting rifle in the home, we were taught not to touch for any reason.

Her one holiday wish: Grampa's hug

When folks from the Make-A-Wish Foundation offered Lynzi Bates anything she wanted, she wouldn't consider a trip to Disney World or a front-row seat at the Macy's Thanksgiving parade.

The 9-year-old, who had two brain tumors removed this year, had just one wish:

"I want to go back to New York to see my Grampa," she said, referring to Arnold Rupracht, of Pulaski. "I would rather go to my Grampa's than Disney World or anywhere else."

The child's request shocked everyone including her mother, Diane Bates.

"All of us, even the Make-A-Wish people, tried to talk her into making a different wish," said Bates, a native of Pulaski. "My father (Rupracht) tried to talk her into going to Disneyland, or someplace else that would be really special for her, where she could go and have fun and just be a kid.

Curt Cavin: IRL & Formula One Q&A

It's one of the few web sites I check every day. Well done, indeed! Thanks! (Alan, Raleigh, N.C.)

Answer: Simple advice: Rent a motor home for the weekend. Its a long event (no kidding, right?) and its usually cold at night. Get there early enough to get a spot with any kind of a view, then sit the lawn chairs on top of the motor home and enjoy. Have a cookout and bring friends. And make sure to watch the action from 8 p.m. to midnight. It is incredible at night. .

ZigBeef system may span industries

The start-up's data reader could move beyond livestock.

Tulsa start-up ZigBeef LLC is ready to go into the cattle market with its new long-range, handheld tracking system, and applications such as rodeos and auto fleet records may not be far behind.

ZigBeef's system uses a USB stick and battery-powered tags to help clients track their assets. The data readers can sell for about a third or less of the $2,000 to $3,000 for similar products, says company founder and president John Hassell.

"Various people are trying to address the same segment," he said. "We think we have the best product."

ZigBeef's original intent was to serve cattle producers trying to keep up with animal identification needs and standards. The small tag -- imprinted with an ID number and other data such as vaccination records -- is attached to a cow's ear and can be read by radio frequency without pointing the USB stick directly at the subject.

A primer for viewing the Democratic debate

I don't think he is ready yet. He is a great motivational speaker. But his idea of "bringing everyone together" to solve the problems of the US is naive at best.

I don't think he's going to talk Haliburton into returning the billions of dollars of our tax money for services and products they have not delivered to our troops and I can just picture the executives of Exxon sitting down and agreeing to return some of the profits they have raked in from price gouging under this administration. Ain't gonna happen. Rather we need regulation, accountability and enforcement of the laws on the books that govern these businesses. We need someone who will demand that they are honest and fair when dealing with their customers.

Talk is cheap, action speaks. America has a short collective attention span and our "rock star" candidate only contributes to the problem.

Faced with mortgage default, some U.S. homeowners walk out

When Raymond Zulueta went into default on his mortgage last year, he did what a lot of people do. He worried.

In a declining housing market, he owed more than the house was worth, and his mortgage payments, even on an interest-only loan, had shot up to $2,600, more than he could afford. "I was terrified," said Zulueta, who services automated teller machines for an armored car company in the San Francisco area.

Then in January he learned about a new company in San Diego called You Walk Away that does just what its name says. For $995, it helps people walk away from their homes, ceding them to the banks in foreclosure.

Last week he moved into a three-bedroom rental home for $1,200 a month, less than half the cost of his mortgage. The old house is now the lender's problem.

Oracle - how to make friends and influence people

He said Oracle was willing to support BEA Systems, rather than saying something like he usually does like, 'why would anyone go somewhere else when Oracle can provide the software stack?'"

He added: "He's beginning to see he can't own the world, or he'll alienate customers. He's finding it's better to own 70 per cent of a real large pie, than all of a smaller one."

Oracle's "hot pluggable" middleware software, used to underpin its ebusiness applications suite, is designed around standards, which means it can be swapped out with open source and competing products. That technical design is also meant to attract partners, such as application builders catering to small businesses.

Having a rich network of third-party products based on Oracle's software helps fill the "white spaces" - aka gaps - in Oracle's own portfolio.

Tanner 'very disappointed' by CBA's rate rise

FEDERAL Finance Minister Lindsay Tanner said it was "very disappointing" Commonwealth Bank had decided to lift its home loan interest rate by more than yesterday's central bank adjustment.

He said the decision would not reflect well on the bank in the market place. The Commonwealth Bank today announced it was increasing its variable home loan rate by .30 of a percentage point to 8.97 per cent. The Reserve Bank of Australia yesterday lifted official interest rates by .25 of a percentage point. "We're very disappointed about the Commonwealth Bank's decision,'' Mr Tanner told the National Press Club in Canberra. "I don't think it will reflect well on the bank in the market place. "We are very concerned about the timing ... and I think the customers of the Commonwealth Bank are entitled to be asking questions about their choice of bank as a result.'' Mr Tanner said the Government intended to make it easier for people to shop around for home loans, "to make choices, to move from provider to provider in order to get maximum competition into the market''.
